NDUFS2 Background Information
NDUFS2 (NADH: Ubiquinone Oxidoreductase Core Subunit S2) is a Protein Coding gene. The NDUFS2 gene, located on 1q23.3, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, and cow, etc. NDUFS2 belongs to the complex I 49 kDa subunit family. The protein encoded by this gene is a core subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (complex I). The NDUFS2 protein is part of complex I of many pro-and eukaryotes. The nuclear gene coding for this protein is therefore an important candidate for mutational detection studies in enzymatic complex I deficient patients. Diseases associated with NDUFS2 include Mitochondrial Complex I Deficiency, Nuclear Type 6, and Leigh Syndrome With Cardiomyopathy. Among its related pathways are GABAergic synapse and Respiratory electron transport, ATP synthesis by chemiosmotic coupling, and heat production by uncoupling proteins.
