NDUFA13/GRIM 19 Background Information
NDUFA13 (NADH: Ubiquinone Oxidoreductase Subunit A13) is a Protein Coding gene. NDUFA13 belongs to the complex I NDUFA13 subunit family. This gene encodes a subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I), which functions in the transfer of electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. NDUFA13 has a unique molecular structure, and its location is very close to the subunits of complex I of low electrochemical potential. The protein binds the signal transducers and activators of transcription 3 (STAT3) transcription factor and can function as a tumor suppressor. Diseases associated with NDUFA13 include Mitochondrial Complex I Deficiency, Nuclear Type 28 and Thyroid Carcinoma, Hurthle Cell. Among its related pathways are GABAergic synapse and Respiratory electron transport, ATP synthesis by chemiosmotic coupling, and heat production by uncoupling proteins.
